Whole30 – Day 1

Let’s do this Whole30 – Day 1!  I am in desperate need of a reset. I have done Whole30 successfully once before with a group from my Crossfit box.  I wish everyone could understand how amazing it makes you feel… that was back in 2013 before I got preggo with my son.  I was the happiest, healthiest and leanest I had been since I was a kid.  Since then I have made many many attempts to get through the 30 days after straying too far from what my body needs, but I have failed for one reason or another.  Since I don’t have a group backing me up this time, this blog is going to be support system.

I KNOW me and dairy have a love/hate relationship, but for some reason I seem to like to torture myself and eat the darned stuff.  I have had allergies since my mid-twenties, mainly to maple pollen and ragweed.  Spring and Fall are pretty much spent hugging a box of Kleenex and hovering over a pot of steaming water.  Recently I’ve been stuffy all year round.  I went to see my general practitioner and she thought I had developed sinusitis from my allergies and put me on a round of antibiotics and Nasal Steroids.  That didn’t seem to help so I finally went to see an ENT to try to dig deeper.  He just said it was allergies, gave me another round of antibiotics and said I needed to get tested again to figure out what the culprit is.  Off I went to the Immunologist.  He told me I most likely had chronic sinusitis, but he wanted me to take some really good allergy medications for a few weeks and ANOTHER ROUND OF ANTIBIOTICS before we started researching the sinusitis diagnosis (which would involve an MRI).  The medication did help slightly, but at this point I had racked up quite a bit of doctor’s bills and didn’t want to waste any more money going in circles with these guys.  I was constantly dealing with post nasal drip, sinus pressure, ear popping, constantly coughing and clearing my throat.  My co-workers probably loved me.  My throat clearing alone was about to send my cube mate to the loony bin.  

This is where the dairy comes in….. I finally put 2 and 2 together and realized that the dairy was what was making me stuffy!!!!!  So I quit eating dairy.  Voila!  No more congestion.  However, for some masochistic reason, I keep eating dairy knowing how awful I will feel. 

So today March 2nd, 2016 I am giving up dairy… for good.  Once I’m done with Whole30 I will not eat any more dairy.  The end.  With this Whole30, I do want to focus on reintroducing gluten-free grains like Rice and Oatmeal to see how my body reacts.  I also need to give my Immune system some TLC after all of those rounds of antibiotics.

*You can scale the weight as needed… I ended up doing 85# today
